"The Economist article about the future of democracy in America isn’t hopeful. But it’s also of the opinion that Trump is probably too old, distractable, self-interested, and tactical to thrust the final sword into the chest of American democracy."

This struck me as I was perusing this Rangelife, as one does, as one of the reasons I don't take The Economist's coverage about certain things very seriously. So what if Trump as a person is exactly this guy we now should all know he is. He doesn't need to intend to do anything to deliver critical damage to the presidency, to the rule of law, to American democracy as a system, and beyond that, this statement ignores all the people around him, who are openly advocating and planning how to achieve all the destruction of American democracy they failed to do last time. This Economist take would've been wrong but at least understandable in 2016, but by now it seems somewhere between willfully ignorant and actively disingenuous.

I was getting hopeful when the gift link article mentioned the driver's mother. Should have known better!
